The commitment ceremony.

This week I’m going to take a closer look at the commitment ceremony.

I have only ever performed one in Tenerife, but hopefully after this I’ll have a lot more in the pipeline.

The commitment ceremony used to be very popular between same sex couples when unfortunately they couldn’t have a legally binding ceremony.

Now however it’s just as popular with heterosexual couples.

Couples are now deciding that yes they have found the one, but for whatever reason DO NOT want to make it legally binding but still want to show their friends and family that they are committed to each other the same as a married couple.

The ceremony I performed was for a man and woman, they have been together for 2 years, and whilst they know they were right for each other, they felt they didn’t need the legally binding certificate.

The ceremony was exactly the same as a wedding ceremony in the fact that they made promises to each other, said vows to each other and exchanged rings.

For them that ceremony was their wedding ceremony, you could see the love in their eyes, the tears that fell as they took their vows; I just know that this was just as important to them as having the real thing.

So you see sometimes the big wedding that we all dream of isn’t necessary for some people, they just want to celebrate in a quiet manner that yes hey have found “the one” but don’t want to be legally bound to that person.

Some food for thought
