This week I want to take a look at the symbolism in ceremonies again, we´ve looked at hand fasting, but this week I want to look at the Unity candle ceremony.
Although traditionally used in Christian wedding ceremonies, it’s now being used a lot in non-religious ceremonies.
There are three candles in total, to taper candles and one larger one.
The two small ones are lit this represents their single lives the bride and groom then light the larger one together, this then represents their now married lives together and the bride and groom then blow out the two smaller ones as a way of letting go of their single lives.
It can be performed with a shot speech or music, depending on what you want
This ceremony can easily be incorporated in to a ceremony and is an excellent visual and something different then the usual readings.
